The Department of Physical Education at Deva Matha College is dedicated to promoting
excellence in sports, fitness, and holistic student development. The department has consistently
contributed to the college’s strong presence in the field of sports and games by fostering
discipline, teamwork, and a spirit of healthy competition among students.
The department is equipped with well-maintained infrastructure including a football ground,
multi-gym, open gym, netball court, and facilities for badminton, basketball, cricket, volleyball,
athletics, and indoor games like carroms. It organises the prestigious Rev. Fr. Paul Alappatt
Memorial 7’s Football Tournament and conducts annual inter-department championships in
various games, creating vibrant opportunities for student participation.
Academically, the department offers Multi-Disciplinary Courses (MDC) under the FYUGP
framework, promoting physical fitness awareness, sports science knowledge, and active lifestyle
practices among students.

* First Semester (FYUGP)- First Aid and CPR (MDC) and Physical Health, Fitness and Lifestyle
Management (MDC).
* Second Semester (FYUGP)- Fit for Life: Smart Fitness and Healthy Living (MDC) and
Introduction to Yoga (MDC).
* Third Semester (FYUGP)- Basic Sports Medicine (MDC) and Disaster Management and
Community Resilience (VAC)
